Plan Parental Leave

Birth Notification (Automatic)
The hospital automatically reports the birth to Skatteverket. The baby gets a personnummer.
Register Baby's Name
Important🔐 BankIDYou must register your baby's name with Skatteverket within 3 months of birth.
Confirm Paternity (Unmarried Parents)
If parents are not married, the father must confirm paternity through the municipality.
Apply for Parental Benefit
Important🔐 BankIDApply for parental benefit (föräldrapenning) through Försäkringskassan before you start your leave.
Child Allowance (Barnbidrag)
Child allowance is paid automatically from the month after birth. Currently 1,250 SEK/month per child.
Apply for Daycare (Forskola)
🔐 BankIDApply for daycare through your municipality. Children are guaranteed a spot from age 1.
